Īs you can see the steps on the the trd pro are not mounted the same way, they are mounted higher up which makes them much more fully visible when retracted.
The one pic from amp research website shows the step fitting below the VERY bottom painted area for 2016-2018 Tacoma’s, and it seems to sit further back under the truck which is why it is not really visible when retracted. My question is, did the shop order the wrong amp research steps for the Tacoma ? I bought amp research steps and new tires as a gift for someone with a 2017 Barcelona red trd pro. I was assuming that the ones for a Tacoma would be the same.
My brother has a 2019 dodge 4x4 diesel running amp research steps, they are pretty much entirely out of sight when retracted. Personally I've never been keen on 5th Gen lower panel that lets part of the undercarriage be seen. With the Trail black cladding in particular the steps give your rig a very finished / factory look. I was afraid that while being helpful the AMP steps wouldn't look very good when retracted. Originally I had the OEM Trail steps, which looked very cool, but weren't ideal for getting in and somewhat in the way getting out. I didn't think to take a photo showing a ruler across the step, however they measure out at exactly 6.5 inches wide As you can see from the photos with the original suspension, the step bisects the total rise from the ground to the threshold. There is lighting built into the system that perfectly illuminates right where you step up. The step has a non skid surface that's very secure even when wet, and to say they feel solid would be an understatement. My sore knees and 5'3" wife say thank you every time we go for a drive. I can't tell you what a difference these make for ease of entry and exit on the 5th Gen. My rig was used as the test bed and what you see is the final design version.with the exception that some of the fabricated parts are not finished painted as the production version will be.
